Former President Sarkozy was accused of spending almost double the legal limit on his unsuccessful 2012 campaign. This is the second of three corruption trials the former French leader is facing. A judge in France found ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy guilty of fraud on Thursday.
Sarkozy was accused of violating campaign finance laws during his unsuccessful bid for re-election in 2012.
The judge did not announce a sentence immediately, but prosecutors had recommended a one-year prison sentence with six months suspended. Sarkozy did not show up to court to hear the verdict.
