The 6th edition of the award event was held on Saturday night at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotels & Suites, in Victoria Island, Lagos. The event recognised and honoured veterans and deserving professionals in the African music space.
Among the Nigerian artistes who won big are Joeboy, who bagged the category ‘Best Artiste Duo or Group in African Pop’ while 2Baba nagged the ‘Best Artist, Duo or Group in African Contemporary‘ category with ‘Oyi’, his 2019 solo single.
Kel P also won the ‘Producer of the Year’ award for his role in Burna Boy’s song ‘On the Low’, while Sodamola Desmond, better known as DJ Spinall, took the ‘Best African DJ’ award.
In the regional category, Tiwa Savage toppled Teni, Yemi Alade, Liberia’s Kanvee Adams, Simi, Mali’s Aya Nakamura, and Ghana’s MzVee to emerge the ‘Best Female Artiste in West Africa’ while Burna Boy snagged the ‘Best Male artiste in West Africa’.
Alongside his ‘Best Male artiste in West Africa’ plaque, Burna Boy also won the ‘Artiste of the year’ award as Wizkid topped him, Davido, Nasty C and a league of other renowned African crooners to emerge the winner of the ‘Song of the Year’ plaque.
